About

Rodents are mammals with a unique physical feature – two pairs of continuously growing front incisors. While most rodents live outside, away from people, some species have learned to benefit from the basic necessities people and our properties provide. The most problematic rodents in our yards and houses are mice, rats, and voles. Moles are also often grouped together with these small furry mammals; however, they are not rodents. They are insectivores and love to tunnel through the soil in our yards and gardens.

Keeping rodents like mice and ratsout of our homes is essential. They spread disease, viruses, and parasites and contaminate food sources. They also use their sharp front incisors to cause damage to the structure of houses and personal belongings. Moles and voles can both cause damage to grass, plants, trees, and landscaping.

Prevent recurring rodent and mole problems by implementing the following tips.

  • Seal cracks around windows, doors, foundations, and utility lines to stop rodents from squeezing inside.

  • Install mesh screens over vents around crawl spaces, attics, and basements to keep rodents outside.

  • Maintain your yard, remove yard debris, and keep the grass cut short.

  • Keep trash cans covered with tightly-fitting lids and empty them often.
